AN INTRODUCTION TO GRADUATE COURSE IN ENVIRONMENT SCIENCE
Hand made paper and its accessories, unleaded petrol, rainwater- harvesting, vermin-composting, organic food, CFC's free products, ISO 14000, twin bin system, eco-friendly products, CNG buses, fair and lovely SPF-15 etc…all these familiar terms gives jilters to your mind, making you conscious and concern towards the environment.
But what exactly the reason behind the introduction of these type environment protecting terms? What criteria are taken into consideration for branding a product, technology and services as environ friendly? Are this environment shielding concepts are hip-hops for marketing the goods? …. And many more queries arise in this exploring and curious human mind.
On analyzing the overall statistical figures it has been found that with increasing day-to-day development for the human welfare, the environment is getting deteriorated at various level of apprehension. Thus making the latter unfit place for human race and other living beings.
In order to acquire the required knowledge towards the positive correlation between the development and the sustainability of environment and its further application in various filed, graduate course in environment science had already been introduced in Delhi University. Maitreyi College, Kalindi College and Hansraj College are conducting this B. Sc Environment Sc. course. For admission its eligibility requirement is 65% PCB and above (depending upon the required college merit list). The course structure mainly encompasses three main subjects i.e, Chemistry, Zoology/ Botany, Environment Science. This course is designed to give a diversified view of environment and its related problems.
Apart, Environment Engineering is another technological course, which is now taken in renowned engineering colleges like Delhi College of Engineering. For admission an all India common entrance test is conducted. The eligibility for entrance test is 55% aggregate (both for med and non med students). Its curriculum offers construction,
geo technique, transportation & traffic water supply & sanitation, surveying and mapping and water resources.
In order to acquire a secured job, one can further opt for post graduation after graduating in Environment course. Indian Institute of Technology, Indraprastha University, Delhi University,
Jawaharlal Nehru University, Annamalai University, Forest Research Institute and Delhi College of Engineering are some of the known Universities/ Institutes for conducting post graduation in environment. Admission is given on the basis of performance in graduation and entrance test (conducted by these Universities/ Institutes).
Job prospects - every inch of the development requires the management of the environment. Therefore environment division is already
sitting in both public and private sectors. Also, many NGOs have already been footed in this field. In addition research, survey and development in prominent Laboratories and Research institute are taking environment as an upcoming area of interest. Environment Auditing, Remote sensing, Environment Assessment etc are some of the other fields having high job profile. The mentioned details therefore supports the statement " 100% job availability". In other words environment is such a diversified field having high employment opportunities accompanied by well-secured pay scale.
Thus, the Environment Science can be another career option for you. This will not only gives job and salary satisfaction, but also responsibility satisfaction towards the environment.
