Quite often we find it hard to choose the right career track / course for ourselves. Being influenced heavily by the market trends, streams in great demand; we often join a short term / long term course and after its completion jump into the wrong career line we do not have the natural inclination of. We join a course or a training to learn about a field with which our heart is not convinced; and that's the seed of a 'dissatisfaction tree' which keeps on growing with passage of time in our lives.

A little soul searching before joining any course / training or choosing a career can prevent us from this wrong beginning.

Gone are the days when Engineering and Medical used to be the only two esteemed career choices. We need to be in pace with the current times and join the stream which best gives the scope of sustained happiness, growth and pleasure while moving in the same field year after year. Great careers await in several fields like Media, Journalism, Biotechnology, Consultancy, Law, Web, Environment, Software development. 

Try to assess your likes and dislikes for these fields seriously. How comfortable you feel in pursuing a career in a certain field, what level of knowledge is required, employment or business opportunities offered in that field, growth opportunities, nature of that field ( technical intensive, communication intensive or a mix of them ).

Based on your likes and dislikes, tick the fields which accommodate more likes and least dislikes.

Now evaluate the available options in the selected field, like short term courses available and the career opportunities thereafter OR long term courses and respective opportunities.

Hoping for the best, join the course / training which takes you in the right direction.

After you complete a course of your choice, very often we find ourselves in a dilemma to start our career with a job in a field not related directly to our course. Well, this is very subjective and varies from person to person. But if I talk of the industry scenario in India, someone who is pursuing a job in any field is normally found more mature than one who is just waiting for the exact type of job he wants. If you get the first job in exactly the same field you have done a course or training in, I say you got a Ace in your hands.
